2019 Bill Weaver Aviation Scholarship Recipients Announced

2019 WAA Bill Weaver Aviation Scholarship

The recipients of the 2019 WAA Bill Weaver Aviation Scholarships were announced at the WAA Safety Day event on June 4th and 5th. The two day event was held at the Westchester Marriott Hotel in Tarrytown, NY.

WAA Chairman, Eric Faulkner began the presentation of the scholarships by remembering his long time friend and fellow WAA Board member, Bill Weaver for whom this scholarship is dedicated. Bill's wife Susan and son Brandon were in attendance to witness how the legacy of his giving will continue to live on through these scholarships. Also in attendance was Mr. Chris Richards, owner of the Academy of Aviation.  Chris' generosity has helped make this scholarship possible.

The 2nd place winner is Mr. Charles Reynolds. Charles has a four year degree in Aviation Technology from Everglades University in Florida and has dreamed of becoming a pilot since he was six years old in his hometown of Antigua, Barbuda.  He started his aviation career in 2007 working as a line service technician as the Boca Airport. He has been working at the Westchester County Airport for 8 years now and is currently a Line Service Supervisor at Ross Aviation. Charles received a $3,000.00 scholarship to the Academy of Aviation for continued flight training.   

The first place winner is Ms. Katherine Benita Guerrero. Katherine received her BS in December of 2017 with a major in Aeronautical Science-Focus in Air Traffic Control. She finished with a GPA of 3.8 and 4.0. Katherine has many honors and awards. To name a few: IAWA-International Women's Association Award 2014. Presidents List- Every Spring and Fall from 2013 to 2016. The Wings club scholarship-Fall of 2015 and 2016. Her finest award is the Bessie Coleman Award which is presented to a female graduate who has attained the highest cumulative grade point average while demonstrating the professional and civic values that exemplify the mission of Vaughn College. Katherine received a $7,000.00 scholarship to the Academy of Aviation for continued flight training.
