Jim Wetherbee - Former Astronaut
A six-time space traveler, Capt. Jim Wetherbee, USN (ret.), is the only astronaut to have commanded five spaceflight missions. After graduating from Notre Dame with a degree in Aerospace Engineering, he became a US Naval aviator and test pilot. In 1984, Jim was selected by NASA and flew twice to the International Space Station and the Russian space station, Mir. For over thirty-five years, Jim’s work as a test pilot, astronaut, director flight crew operations, deputy director Johnson Space Center, and a safety executive in the oil and gas industry has given him experiences and insights into dangerous businesses. He is the author of Controlling Risk In A Dangerous World.
Ben Struck - FAASTeam Program Manager
Ben joined the FAA in 2012 as an Operations Inspector at the Farmingdale FSDO and has been the FAA Safety Team (FAASTeam) Program Manager since February of 2016.
Russ Lawton - Air Charter Safety Foundation
Russell Lawton is Director of Safety, and Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP) Manager for the Air Charter Safety Foundation. He is responsible for the Air Charter Safety Foundation’s ASAP program for participating FAR 91 and 135 companies, as well as the ACSF Industry Audit Standard for charter operators and fractional aircraft ownership companies. Russ will be discussing Gray Charters-An unacceptable risk.
Don Chupp-Fireside Partners
Don Chupp founded Fireside Partners to provide emergency response services and emergency plan development to the business aviation industry. In creating Fireside Partners, Don used his extensive experience acquired during his years with the U. S. Air Force and NTSB. Don will be Risk mitigation through planning.
David Higgins - Global Air Training
David Higgins is a highly experienced offshore captain, with 20 years experience flying the North Sea. David is passionate about flight safety and has 18 years experience delivering training to commercial airlines, corporate flight departments and commercial helicopter operations. David will be discussing CRM & Risk.
Dr. Jonathan Sackier - MD, AOPA Contributor
Trained as a surgeon in England, Jonathan was recruited to America due to his interest in minimally invasive techniques. Having brought several medical technologies to market, Jonathan left clinical practice to focus on life science innovations, teaching and research. His passion for aviation started early and in addition to flying he writes the Fly Well column for AOPA Pilot magazine and content for AOPA’s online newsletters. Jonathan will be discussing Diet and Food.
